Mujibnagar

 

The interim government of Bangladesh was sworn in on 17 April 1971 at Amrakan in Baidyanathtala, Meherpur. Earlier, on April 10, the formation of a revolutionary government was announced in Bangladesh. Acting President Syed Nazrul Islam, Prime Minister Tajuddin Ahmed and the cabinet were sworn in that day. Later the name of Vaidyanathtala was changed to Mujibnagar.

Mujibnagar Liberation War Memorial Complex
 

The Mujibnagar Liberation War Memorial Complex has been established here to commemorate the historical significance of the first temporary capital of independent Bangladesh. A memorial has been erected on the oath of office of the Provisional Government. Inside the memorial complex, various sectors of the liberation war have been highlighted through maps. The six-step rose garden has been created as a metaphor for the historic six-point. Various important events of the liberation war have been presented here through sculptures. Outside the complex, sculptures of various events including Bangabandhus speech on March 7, swearing in of Mujibnagar government, surrender of Pak army have been set up.

 

The memorial was inaugurated at Mujibnagar on 17 April 1978 to commemorate the various events of the War of Liberation including the swearing in of the Provisional Government of 1971. The monument was designed by architect Tanvir Karim. The architectural feature of the monument is that it has 23 walls 20 inches thick centering on the main altar on a round pillar 180 feet in diameter, which bears the image of the rising sun. The 23 pillars of the monument symbolize the 23-year struggle from 1947 to 1971. 3 million stones have been laid to hold the memory of 3 million martyrs.

Mujibnagar Amrakanan

 

The historic mango orchard covers an area of ​​more than eight hectares at Vaidyanathtala in Mujibnagar of the district. The place is better known as Mujibnagar Amrakanan. The swearing in ceremony of the first provisional government of independent Bangladesh was held in this historic garden. The distance from the district headquarters to Mujibnagar is about 18 km.

Amjhupi Nilkuthi

 

The indigo factory was built in 1815 or later, about 8 km from the district headquarters. The road can be taken from Meherpur to Chuadanga. Nilkuthi is a place to visit in the vast desert surrounded by old trees.

The ancient village of Amdaha

About four kilometers east-south of the district town is the ancient village of Amdaha. It is believed that there was a moat around the site of about one square kilometer. An ancient pillar obtained from here is placed in front of the Deputy Commissioners building.
