বাংলাদেশের উত্তরাঞ্চলের ঐতিহ্যবাহী জনপদ হচ্ছে রংপুর জেলা। ভাওয়াইয়া গান আর ব্রিটিশবিরোধী আন্দোলনের এ জনপদকে দিয়েছে ভিন্নমাত্রা। ২০১০ সালে দেশের সপ্তম বিভাগীয় শহর হিসেবে এর অভিষেক হয় । প্রায় ২৩০৮ বর্গকিলোমিটার আয়তনের এ জেলার উত্তরে নীলফামারী ও লালমনিরহাট, দক্ষিণে গাইবান্ধা, পূর্বে কুড়িগ্রাম এবং পশ্চিমে দিনাজপুর জেলা। এ জেলার উপজেলাগুলো হল- রংপুর সদর, বদরগঞ্জ, গঙ্গা চড়া, কাউনিয়া, মিঠাপুকুর পীরগাছা, পীরগঞ্জ ও তারাগঞ্জ। তিস্তা, যমুনেশ্বর, ঘাঘট, করতোয়া এবং চিকলী রংপুরের প্রধান নদী।

Rangpur district is a traditional town in the northern part of Bangladesh. Bhavaya songs and anti-British movement have given a different dimension to this town. It made its debut in 2010 as the seventh divisional city in the country. Nilphamari and Lalmonirhat to the north, Gaibandha to the south, Kurigram to the east and Dinajpur district to the west of this district covering an area of about 2308 sq km. The upazilas of the district are Rangpur Sadar, Badarganj, Ganga Chara, Kaunia, Mithapukur Pirgachha, Pirganj and Taraganj. Teesta, Yamuneshwar, Ghaghat, Karatoya and Chikli are the main rivers of Rangpur.

কেরামতিয়া মসজিদ, স্মারক স্তম্ভ অর্জন, শতরঞ্জি শিল্প, কারমাইকেল কলেজ, তাজহাট জমিদারবাড়ি, চিকলির বিল, পায়রাবন্দ,ভিন্নজগৎ।
রাজা রাম মোহন রায়, মাওলানা কেরামত আলী জৈনপুরী, বেগম রোকেয়া, ড. এম এ ওয়াজেদ মিঞা, সাবেক রাষ্ট্রপতি হুসেইন মুহম্মদ এরশাদ ব্যক্তিগণ এ রংপুর জেলায় জন্ম গ্রহণ করেন। প্রাচীন রঙ্গপুর থেকে রংপুর জেলার নামকরণ হয়েছে বলে ধারণ করা হয়।

Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Maulana Keramat Ali Jainpuri, Begum Rokeya, Dr. MA Wazed Miah, former President Hussain Muhammad Ershad were born in Rangpur district. It is believed that Rangpur district was named after ancient Rangpur.
