উত্তরাঞ্চলের প্রবেশদ্বার হচ্ছে বগুরা জেলা। প্রাচীন পুন্ড্র রাজ্যের রাজধানী পুন্ড্রবর্ধনই হচ্ছে এখানকার বগুরা জেলা। মৌরয গুপ্ত, পাল, সেন আমলের অনেক নিদর্শন এখনো বর্তমান আছে এ জেলার বিভিন্ন স্থানে। ইতিহাস হতে জানা যায়, ১২৭৯-১২৮২ সালে এ অঞ্চলের শাসনকর্তা সুলতান গিয়াস উদ্দীন বলবনের পুত্র সুলতান নাসির উদ্দীন বগরা খানের নামানুসারেই এখানকার নামকরণ হয়েছে বগড়া বা বগুরা। প্রায় ২৯২০ বর্গকিলোমিটার আয়তনের এ জেলার উত্তরে জয়পুরহাট ও গাইবান্ধা, দক্ষিণে চলনবিল, নাটোর ও সিরাজগঞ্জ জেলা, পূর্বে যমুনা নদী ও উপজেলাগুলো হল- বগুরা সদর, আদম দীঘি, ধুনট, দুপচাঁচিয়া, গাবতলী, কাহালু, নন্দী গ্রাম, সারিয়াকান্দি, শেরপুর, শিবগঞ্জ ও সোনাতলা।

Bogra district is the gateway to the north. Pundravardhana is the capital of the ancient Pundra kingdom. Many specimens of Maurya Gupta, Pala, Sen period are still present in different places of this district. It is known from history that Bagra or Bagura was named after Sultan Nasir Uddin Bagra Khan, the son of Sultan Gias Uddin Balban, the ruler of the region in 1269-1272. Joypurhat and Gaibandha in the north, Chalanbil, Natore and Sirajganj districts in the south, Jamuna river and upazilas in the east are: .
