The tomb of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of Bangladesh, is located at Tungipara, about 19 km from the district town. He was born here on 16 March 1920. Bangabandhu was buried here on 15 August 1975 when he and his family lost their lives at the hands of some misguided army officers. A square mausoleum of modern architecture has been built on the tomb of Bangabandhu.
The central mosque in the heart of the district town. The mosque was inaugurated by the then Governor of Pakistan Khwaja Nazimuddin in 1949. The mosque has two star-studded minarets and five domes. The central dome is much larger than the others.
