মানিকগঞ্জ হচ্ছে ঢাকার পাশের জেলা। মানিক শাহ নামে এক সুফি সাধকের নামে এ জেলার নামকরণ হয়েছে। এ জেলার উত্তরে টাংগাইল, দক্ষিণে ফরিদপুর ওঢাকা, পূর্বে ঢাকা ও পচিমে পাবনা এবং রাজবাড়ী জেলা। পদ্মা, যমুনা, ধলেশ্বরী, ইছামতী ও কালীগংগা নদী বয়ে গেছে মানিকগঞ্জ জেলার ওপর দিয়ে। প্রায় ১৩৭৯ বর্গকিলোমিটার আয়তনের এ জেলার উপজেলাগুলো হলো- মানিকগঞ্জ সদর, শিবালয়, সাটুরিয়া, সিংগাইর, ঘিওর, দৌলতপুর, হরিরামপুর। অনেক পুরোনো মন্দির এবং মঠ রয়েছে এ মানিকগঞ্জ জেলায়।

Manikganj is the district next to Dhaka. The district is named after a Sufi saint named Manik Shah. Tangail to the north, Faridpur to Dhaka to the south, Dhaka to the east and Pabna and Rajbari districts to the west. The rivers Padma, Jamuna, Dhaleshwari, Ichhamati and Kaliganga flow through Manikganj district. The upazilas of the district with an area of about 1389 sq km are Manikganj Sadar, Shibalaya, Saturia, Singair, Ghior, Daulatpur, Harirampur. There are many old temples and monasteries in Manikganj district.
