তিনটি পার্বত্য জেলার অন্যতম হল বান্দরবান। এ জেলার আয়তন হচ্ছে ৪৪৭৯ বর্গকিলোমিটার। বান্দরবানের উত্তরে রাঙ্গামাটি জেলা, দক্ষিণে মায়ানমারের আরাকান রাজ্য, পূর্বে মায়ানমারের রাজ্য ও রাঙ্গামাটি জেলা ও পশ্চিমে চট্রাগ্রাম এবং কক্সবাজার জেলা। সাঙ্গু, মাতামুহুরী ও বাকখালী এ জেলার প্রধান নদী। জেলার উপজেলাগুলো হল-বান্দরবান সদর, রোয়াংছড়ী, রুমা, থানচি, লামা, আলিকদম ও নাইক্ষ্যংছড়ি। বান্দরবানের পাহাড়ী এলাকার জনবসতি খুবই কম থাকায় ব্রিটিশরা এ এলাকাকে বন হিসেবে ঘোষণা করে। ১৮২৪ সালে বার্মা-বৃটিশ যুদ্ধে ব্রিটিশদের পরাজয়ের পর আরাকানরা এ এলাকায় অন্যতম প্রধান উপজাতি হিসেবে বসবাস শুরু করে। বোমাং রাজা মাথান প্রু আসার পর থেকে বান্দরবানে লোক বসতি বাড়তে থাকে। এ জেলায় সর্বত্র বেড়ানো যায় প্রাকৃতিক সৌন্দরযের কারনে।

Bandarban is one of the three hill districts. The area of this district is 4469 sq km. Bandarban is bounded on the north by Rangamati district, on the south by Arakan state of Myanmar, on the east by Myanmar state and Rangamati district and on the west by Chittagong and Coxs Bazar districts. Sangu, Matamuhuri and Bakkhali are the main rivers of the district. The upazilas of the district are Bandarban Sadar, Roangchhari, Ruma, Thanchi, Lama, Alikadam and Naikhyangchhari. The British declared this area as a forest as the hilly area of Bandarban was sparsely populated. After the defeat of the British in the Burma-British War in 1824, the Arakanese began to live in the area as one of the main tribes. Since the arrival of the Bomang king Mathan Pru, the population of Bandarbhav has been increasing. Due to the natural beauty of the district can be visited everywhere.
