রাজধানী থেকে প্রায় ৩০১ কিলোমিটার, দূরে নবগঠিত রংপুর বিভাগের জেলা গাইবান্ধা জেলা। প্রায় ২১৭৯ বর্গকিলোমিটার আয়তনের এ জেলার উত্তরে কুড়িগ্রাম ও রংপুর জেলা, দক্ষিণে বগুরা জেলা, পূর্বে জামালপুর, কুড়িগ্রাম জেলা ও ব্রম্মপুত্র নদ এবং পশ্চিমে দিনাজপুর ও রংপুর জেলা। কড়তোয়া, ঘাঘট ও বাঙ্গালী এ জেলার প্রধান নদী। উপজেলাগুলো হচ্ছে- গাইবান্ধা সদর, ফুলছড়ি, গোবিন্দগঞ্জ, পলাশবাড়ী, সাদুল্লাপুর, সাঘাট ও সুন্দরগঞ্জ।

Gaibandha district of the newly formed Rangpur division, about 301 km from the capital. It covers an area of about 2189 sq km and is bounded on the north by Kurigram and Rangpur districts, on the south by Bogura district, on the east by Jamalpur, Kurigram district and Brammaputra river and on the west by Dinajpur and Rangpur districts. Karatoya, Ghaghat and Bangali are the main rivers of the district. The upazilas are Gaibandha Sadar, Fulchhari, Gobindganj, Palashbari, Sadullapur, Saghat and Sundarganj.
