বাংলাদেশের আমের রাজধানী হচ্ছে চাপাইনবাবগঞ্জ জেলা। এ জেলায় সবচেয়ে বেশি আম উৎপাদিত হয় এ জেলাতেই। চাপাইনবাবগঞ্জ জেলার নামকরণ নিয়ে লোকমুখে অনেক কথা প্রচলিত আছে। জানা যায় নবাবগঞ্জের মহেশপুরে চাঁপাবতী নামে এক নর্তকী বাস করতেন। তার নাচে মুগ্ধ ছিলেন সেকালের নবাবরা। তার নামে এ এলাকার নাম রাখেন চাঁপাই। আর নবাবি আমলে এ এলাকার নবাবদের চিত্ত বিনোদনের তেমন কোন ব্যবস্থা ছিল না। নবাবরা তাই তাঁবু খাটিয়ে এ এলাকায় পশু শিকার করতেন। তাই এ এলাকার নামকরণ হয় চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ। প্রায় ১৭৪৪ বর্গকিলোমিটার আয়তনের এ জেলার উত্তর, পশ্চিম ও দক্ষিণে ভারতের পশ্চিমবঙ্গ, পূর্বে রাজশাহী ও নওগাঁ জেলা অবস্থিত। পদ্মা, মহানন্দা, পাগলা, মরাগঙ্গা ও পুনর্ভবা এ জেলার প্রধান নদী। নবাবগঞ্জ সদর, শিবগঞ্জ, নাচোল, ভোলাহাট ও গোমস্তাপুর এ জেলার উপজেলা। রাজধানী ঢাকা হতে এ জেলার দূরত্ব হচ্ছে ৩১৭ কিলোযমিটার।

Chapainawabganj district is the mango capital of Bangladesh. The highest mango production is in this district. There is a lot of talk about naming Chapainawabganj district. It is known that a dancer named Champawati lived in Maheshpur of Nawabganj. The nawabs of the time were fascinated by his dance. Chapai named the area after him. And during the Nawabi period the Nawabs of this area did not have much entertainment. The Nawabs therefore pitched tents and hunted animals in the area. That is why this area was named Chapainawabganj. It covers an area of about 1644 sq km and is bounded on the north, west and south by West Bengal, India, on the east by Rajshahi and Naogaon districts. Padma, Mahananda, Pagla, Maraganga and Punarbhaba are the main rivers of the district. Nawabganj Sadar, Shibganj, Nachol, Bholahat and Gomstapur upazilas of the district. The distance of the district from the capital Dhaka is 316 kilometers.
